510 MVA Transformer Unloading & Foundation Shifting
Unloading and precision shifting of a 510 MVA power transformer to its foundation pad at Satgachi sub-station, Bardwan. One of the heaviest single-piece lifts handled by IPN Lifters.

The Challenge
The 510 MVA transformer — one of the largest capacity units in the eastern grid — had to be unloaded from a multi-axle trailer and shifted to the foundation inside the sub-station compound. The foundation pad was positioned 40 metres from the unloading point with a narrow corridor between existing live electrical bays.
Our Approach
A detailed method statement was prepared in coordination with L&T's project team. The transformer was unloaded using a 100T hydraulic crane onto a roller track system. Hydraulic jacks and pipe rollers were used to inch the unit along the pre-surveyed route, maintaining clearance from live equipment at all times. The entire operation was supervised with real-time load monitoring.
The Result
The 510 MVA transformer was successfully positioned on its foundation with millimetre-level accuracy. Zero incidents recorded, and the operation was completed within the planned shutdown window.
